The readers are presented with the first collection dedicated to political, social, economic, energy and religious situations in contemporary Portugal. It is a set of 11 papers that analyze from different angles the challenges and problems that Portugal faces, and often successfully copes with. The special value of the collection is represented by two facts – firstly, that all the authors of the works in it are young scientists and researchers of the Institute of European Studies, as an already formed team ready to tackle a detailed analysis of the situation in one European country, and secondly, that it abounds in sources on Portuguese, but also other foreign languages such as English, Russian, Spanish, German and others.
