Dr. Rajko Petrović’s book Španija: suzbijanje secesionizma [Spain: Suppression of Secessionism] (Belgrade: Catena mundi: Institute ofEuropean Studies, 2022, 422 pages) is an extended doctoral dissertation that he defended at the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Political Sciences in 2021. Accordingly, it talks not only about Spain’s struggle against Catalan, Basque and other secessionism and various political and economic instruments, which is its central part, but also about the detailed political and social conditions in that country – from the origin and development of Spain as the nation and state under that name, its colonial conquests and its withdrawal from former colonies, through the description of the institutions and political system of Spain, its party system, the analysis of the last few electoral cycles, then its territorial organization of power and distribution of power, the religious and linguistic structure of the country, its international politics, relations with major world powers and neighboring countries today, its place and role in the European Union, its culture and art, up to the author’s proposal for the future arrangement of Spain in order to preserve this country as a unique entity. It is one of the most extensive and detailed books dedicated to political and social situations in such an important country on the European and world level as Spain, written in the Serbian language. The reviewers of the book are Prof. Snežana Đorđević (University of Belgrade – Faculty of Political Sciences, Full Professor), Dr. Veran Stančetić (University of Belgrade – Faculty of Political Sciences, Assistant Professor) and Dr. Goran Nikolić (Institute of European Studies, Principal Research Fellow).
