The Titanic Disaster and Insurance
Prof. Wolfgang Rohrbach is a three-time Doctor of Science. At the University of Vienna, in 1972, he received his doctorate in the subjects History of Economics and Sociology, as well as Slavic Philology (with Russian and Serbo-Croatian as the main languages), earning the title of Doctor of Philology. After that, he devoted himself more intensively to economic sciences. He completed his habilitation in 2006 at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Sopron in western Hungary with the habilitation thesis “Effect of demographic development on health and pension insurance systems”. Prof. Rohrbach has been a regular member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts in Salzburg since 2014, and three years later he was elected a member of the Serbian Royal Academy of Scientists and Artists in Belgrade. He currently teaches at the Danube University in Krems, Austria. Since 1973, he has been engaged in training experts for various expert and leading positions in the insurance industry, and in the period from 1980 to 1999 he was the head of the administrative department for work with the public at the insurance company “Austria-Collegialität”, and then he was director of one of the branches of UNIQA Insurance in Serbia. The focal point of his scientific work is insurance publications in Austria, Germany, Hungary and Serbia, where special mention should be made of the sixteen-volume encyclopedic work “History of Insurance in Austria”, which has reached a very high level of international popularity and has been published periodically since 1988.
