On Monday, October 16, starting at 1 p.m. (CEST), the Institute for European Studies is organizing a lecture
Prof. Dr. Peter Radan
Were the Confederate Secessions Legal?
Prof. Dr. Peter Radan is Honorary Professor of Law at the Macquarie University School of Law in Sydney, Australia. Before retiring, he was also the dean of the named faculty. During his rich career, which was mostly devoted to the study of secession and the right of nations to self-determination, he wrote several scientific monographs, among which stand out “The Break-up of Yugoslavia and International Law” and “Creating New States: Theory and Practice of Secession”, of which the second book was written in co-authorship with prof. Dr. Saša Pavković. He will present his latest scientific work at the Institute for European Studies “Creating a More Perfect Slaveholders’ Union: Slavery, the Constitution, and Secession in Antebellum America”, in which he defends the thesis that the Confederate States of America had the right to secede from the USA. Professor Peter Radan is originally from our area and speaks Serbian.
