On Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at 12:00 PM, the Institute of European Studies will host a lecture by:
Dr. Ognjen Pribićević
on the occasion of the publication of his book:
A DIFFERENT WORLD: TRUMP, BREXIT, AND THE WAR IN UKRAINE (Clio, IDN, Belgrade, 2024).
Drawing on his academic and diplomatic expertise, Dr. Ognjen Pribićević analyzes in this book the complex crises and conflicts whose ultimate outcomes are currently difficult to foresee, as well as the events that have directly or indirectly led to them. The world faces three levels of crisis: the erosion of the existing international order, the degradation of institutions, and, most importantly, the depletion of human capital. These three crises pose serious challenges to humanity’s ability to continue functioning under the established norms and raise the question of what can be done to avoid increasingly profound crises, including those with potentially catastrophic consequences.
Dr. Ognjen Pribićević was born in Belgrade in 1960. He graduated from the Faculty of Political Science in 1982 with an exceptional GPA of 9.74, earning an award as one of the top students of his generation at the University of Belgrade. He defended his master’s thesis in 1985 and his doctoral dissertation in 1988 at the same faculty. Coming from a distinguished family of diplomats and academics, his father, Branko, earned his doctorate from Oxford in 1957 and was one of the founders of the Faculty of Political Science in Belgrade.
Dr. Pribićević has served as Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs (2004–2005) and as Serbia’s Ambassador to Germany (2005–2009) and the United Kingdom (2013–2017). Since 1992, he has been affiliated with the Institute of Social Sciences, achieving the rank of Scientific Advisor in 2012. He has published over 60 scholarly articles in both national and international journals and has authored three monographs, including the latest:
“A Different World: Trump, Brexit, and the War in Ukraine” (2024).
His academic work includes research positions at universities and institutes in Oxford, Pittsburgh, and Vienna, as well as guest lectures at esteemed institutions such as Princeton, New York, Washington, Seattle, Colorado, Oxford, London, Paris, Vienna, Geneva, Bologna, Munich, and Heidelberg.
