The Institute оf European Studies and the Association of Hispanist of Serbia are
organizing a lecture by Prof. Dr. Gian Luca Gardini entitled “A contextualized and
positive assessment of EU-LAC relations”. The lecture is held as part of this year’s
International Summer School of Latin American Studies in Serbia, and the occasion is
the latest Gardini’s book entitled ” The Redefinition of the EU Presence in Latin
America and the Caribbean ” (Peter Lang Verlag, 2023) for which he received Claudia
Castaneda Prize for best book 2020-2023 awarded by the Chilean Political Science
Association. The lecture will be held in English.
Gian Luca Gardini is a full professor and Chair of Department of History of
International Relations (with a focus on Latin America) at the University of Udine,
Italy. From 2014 to 2021, he was the Chair of International Business and Public
Relations with a focus on Latin America at the Faculty of Business, Economics and
Social Sciences of Friedrich-Alexander University. He previously taught at the
University of Cambridge and the University of Bath in the United Kingdom.
His main research interests include Latin American international relations, foreign
policy analysis, comparative regional integration, international organizing, and issues
of international power, order, and institutions. Among his recent books are External
Powers in Latin America (Rutledge, 2021), and The World Before and After Covid-
19 (EIIS, 2020).
