Our colleague, Ms. Ivona Leskur, participated in the 28th World Congress of the International Political Science Association (IPSA), titled “Autocratization in Polarized Societies,” held from July 12 to 16 in Seoul, Republic of Korea.
On July 13, she took part as a discussant on the panel “Climate Politics and Regionalism in Europe.” On July 16, she appeared as a speaker on the panel “Innovative Technological AI and Methods for Sustainable Development,” where she presented her research titled “The Cost of Digital Transformation: Environmental Trade-Offs and Resource Independence in the EU’s Twin Digital and Green Agenda – The Case of Lithium Mining in Serbia.”
In addition, she had the opportunity to attend the keynote address by former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, on the topic “Democracy, Multilateralism and Global Citizenship,” as well as the official opening ceremony of the Congress, during which the President of the Republic of Korea, Lee Jae-myung, addressed the audience with a speech titled “K-Democracy: Toward a New Era.” At the closing ceremony, participants were addressed by the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, Woo Won-shik.
During her stay in Seoul, Ms. Leskur also visited the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia, where she met with H.E. Ambassador Nemanja Grbić.
Her participation in the congress was supported by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia. In addition, she was one of 47 recipients of a scholarship awarded by the International Political Science Association (IPSA), out of a total of 1,022 applicants.
This year’s Congress gathered over 3,000 delegates, making it the largest event in the history of the association and the world’s biggest conference in the field of political science.
