Biography
Nikola Tucakov, MA, is a PhD candidate at the Faculty of Political Sciences, University of
Belgrade. Since December of 2023 he has been employed as a research trainee at the Institute
of European Studies.
He completed his undergraduate studies in International Relations at the Faculty of Political
Sciences, University of Belgrade in 2020. He completed the European Regional Master’s
Programme in Democracy and Human Rights in Southeast Europe, earning an MA from the
University of Bologna and the University of Sarajevo in 2022, having defended his thesis
titled The Machinery of Celebration: Mapping the Ceremonial Apparatus of Republika
Srpska. For this thesis, he received the Best Thesis Award of the Global Campus of Human
Rights in his graduating class. He obtained an additional MA in Politics from the Faculty of
Media and Communications, Singidunum University in 2022, having defended his thesis
titled The Zionist Movement in Belgrade Before the Second World War: An Analysis of the
Jewish Press.
From March 2022 to October 2023, he was engaged on the Erasmus+ research project
Simulating Human Rights in Peacebuilding – SHARINPEACE. As an assistant, he
participated in the organizing of the 2023 Summer School in Comparative Conflict Studies,
organized by the Center for Comparative Conflict Studies in Belgrade. Since June 2023 he
has been involved in the work of the research project Cultural Transfer Europe-Serbia in the
19th and 20th Century (CTES), supported by the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia.
His main areas of scientific interest are nationalism and national movements, the history of
political thought, political philosophy of the 19th and 20th century, minority political
movements and thought, as well as Jewish studies. Apart from his native Serbian, he speaks
English fluently, along with a high degree of fluency in Russian, intermediate knowledge of
German, as well as basic knowledge of Hebrew, Italian and Danish.
