The Institute for European Studies is organizing a lecture by Dr. Sandra Joireman on Thursday, October 10, starting at 12:00 p.m.:
“Legacy and Lessons of Forced Displacement in Serbia”
Prof. Dr. Sandra Joireman holds the Weinstein Chair of International Studies and is a
Professor of Political Science at the University of Richmond (Virginia, USA). Her research
focuses on topics related to property rights, post-conflict migration, and customary law. Prof.
Joireman has served as a Senior Research Fellow at the UN Food and Agriculture
Organization, a Fulbright Scholar at the American University in Priština and Addis Ababa
University, and a Visiting Researcher at Makerere University in Uganda, working with the
Makerere Institute of Social Research and the International Development Centre at the
University of Oxford. She is the author of several monographs on peaceful conflict
resolution, the return of displaced persons during and after conflicts in Europe (the former
Yugoslavia) and African states (Ethiopia and Eritrea), property rights of displaced persons,
and their restitution following conflicts, as well as on the relationship between church, state,
and citizens, and nationalism and political identity. She has published numerous articles on
property rights, migration, and the political and legal development of African states. Prof.
Joireman has conducted field research in Ethiopia, Eritrea, Ghana, Kenya, Serbia (including
Kosovo and Metohija), Liberia, Oman, Rwanda, and Uganda.
